From the inception of this dear family of God, there was nothing ordinary about this church. As cold weather approached, the urgency of completing our first building was on everyone's mind. Thus, in the fall of 1952, with one page of plans given to the church by Hardy Bass, work was begun using a broom handle and yard stick for sighting poles along with a borrowed transit. The footers for a 27' x 60' building was laid out. Concrete was poured on Monday by the men of the church. There was no one in the congregation who was qualified to lay block so a professional was hired.
By Thursday, the blocks were ready for the sill. On Friday, the men of the church completed the sill and before nightfall, had most of the subflooring completed.
On Saturday, about 30 men came from other churches to assist in the construction project. The women came to feed the construction crew, and to help with smaller chores around the jobsite. By nightfall Saturday, the building was completely framed and much of the sheathing was up.
On October 26, 1952, the Nashville Banner came out to take pictures and glean information so they might give us a wonderful write-up about the church that was built in a single week. Our first service was held October 27, 1952, Sunday morning with the sun coming through the roof. It was one of the most glorious worship experiences anyone could ever hope to be a part of. So much hard work, so many wonderful people, and so many gifts of love made this church possible.
As you can see, what we enjoy today is because of the faith and the faithfulness of our brothers and sisters almost 50 years ago. Dear people, 50 years from now, the blessings our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will enjoy in the servce of the Lord will be because of our faithfulness today and tomorrow. We are here to serve. Let us do our very best to make this ministry which God began in 1952, even more powerful and effective for Jesus, today, tomorrow, and until Christ comes.
